----------------------------------
Main Menu Options:
1: Gearing Calculator
The gearing calculator helps get a "rider's view" of how the bicycle
will perform between gear changes. To get an accurate view of how
the bicycle will perform, an effective wheel diameter is calculated
for each combination of gears on the bicycle. A 27 inch wheel, with
a 28 tooth front gear and a 28 tooth rear gear will give an effective
wheel diameter ( or gear-inch ) of 27 inches.
To use the calculator you will need to have available the wheel diameter
as accurately as possible, the number of gear teeth on each of the front
cog's and each of the rear cog's. Output can be directed back to the
screen, to disk, or to a printer (LPT1:).
Example: This would be for a 27" 10-speed bicycle.
...Wheel Diameter: 27.01
...Chain Wheel Teeth: 45 50 0
... Free Wheel Teeth: 14 17 20 24 28 0 0
...[F]ile, [S]creen or [P]rinter? S
The program will compute the gear-inches or the effective diameter,
the %-change from high to low range, and the %-change between each
of the rear gears.
Finally, the program will graph each of the gears on a log scale so
the effective "feel" of a gear change will be graphed.
2: Input New Records
This part of the program will keep track of your training record.
The program was set up to be used in tandom with a cat-eye cyclometer
right on the bike and a simple log. Any method that will keep track
of miles, time, and total miles (odometer) can be used to gather
the information.
<ESC> key will switch from the input area to the command line.
A key will add a completed record
D key will delete the displayed record
U key will change the displayed record
N key will display the next record in the data-base
P key will display the previous record in the data-base
Q key will quit the data entry functions
3: Print Trips
This part of the program will print the information either to a file
or to the printer a journal of the information on the data-base.
A short series of yes-no questions are used to determine what you
want to print.
H: Help
This will print the help function you are currently reading.
Q: Quit
Close all files and return to DOS.
